WAITING (8/13/03)

A watched pot never boils
A sated flower doesn't grow
Independence gains attention
You'll say yes if I say no

We have empty days before us
Still the timing's never right
You're intrigued by my indifference
But I'm lonely here tonight

I can't imagine life without you
I can't imagine you are real
I can't hold back my emotions
I can't express the way I feel

My calendar's overflowing
There's no free time in sight
I wear the mask of self-reliance
But I'm lonely here tonight

We are taught to expect nothing
That we can't get on our own
So instead we start accepting
That we'll live our lives alone

Cinderella found her slipper
And Prince Charming found Snow White
But of course that's all just nonsense
I'm still lonely here tonight

In a world of egotism
You're just too afraid to give
And we both just sit here waiting
What a lonely way we live

So I'll pretend it doesn't matter
And you'll pretend that it's alright
And we'll never tell each other
That we're lonely here tonight.
