LOGIC PROBLEM (5/6/05)

Back in 9th grade geometry

We studied steps for mathematical proofs

And among the appropriate answers

We could take in truth

But there was always one question

Where the facts and the figures figured nothing of fact

And in trying to string straight lines out of curves

I ended up stepping back

And what’s logical ain’t always psychologically sound

What’s theoretical is sometimes heretically bound

Ask permission to lift your feet off the ground

And I’ll be found

Simplicity tempts us with the easy way out

But straightforward solutions set us in stone

I turn in my tests with ten seconds to spare

And realize I might be alone

Cause what’s logical ain’t always psychologically sound

What’s theoretical is sometimes heretically bound

Ask permission to lift your feet off the ground

And I’ll be found

If A equals B and B equals C

The three dots in therefore won't make you see

That for C to be A,

A would have to agree

To play by the rules and forget about B

If it’s not in my notes it won’t give me the grade

But I know I’m instinctively right

Corollaries control me only so much

And certainly not tonight

Cause what’s logical ain’t always psychologically sound

What’s theoretical is sometimes heretically bound

Ask permission to lift your feet off the ground

And I’ll be found

Ask permission to lift your feet off the ground

And I’ll be found

This is a great piece of writing Jen... was it meant to be a song?
